101 (OR AT LEAST 10) WAYS TO HIDE YOUR TELEVISION

10 YEARS AGO – I GAVE UP TV. IT LASTED FOR 4 YEARS.

At the time, it was not as difficult as I thought, the kids were little, so much on TV was inappropriate for them and they fought over the rest. We still watched whole seasons of “The Andy Griffith” show and “Bewitched” and “Mary Tyler Moore”…I honestly did not miss it.

I definitely read more…and probably got more done. What can I say…once a junkie…

How the TV came back?  We took a trip to the beach, you know those big beach houses…where TV was in abundance…a TV for everyone! And I stumbled upon a show called “TOP DESIGN” which was a BRAVO show where different designers competed with Design Challenges, and eventually one designer won a bunch a money and a great job. I got hooked, and HAD TO HAVE MY TV back, to see how the show turned out. and the rest as they say is TV History.

Still, despite their sleek new silhouettes, I , like many people, do not want my TV addiction taking center stage in my living room. So I have spent a fair amount to time finding creative ways to help the TV Blend…into the room.

Here are 10 very Clever solutions…some I would like to employ in my house!

1. This is the most common and my favorite solution….the Classic…TV among Art

I love the creativity and in many cases craftsmanship…behind these solutions…I do have to laugh, especially at myself…at how much I try to mask the TV…despite the fact that it does bring me great joy…I mean…all the old movies..and  “HOMELAND”. ‘MAD MEN”.  “NEW GIRL”…These shows are fantastic!!!…I still get outside! It is all about balance…

this is still my “solution of choice” …

  1. I still need to switch to a flat screen. I keep putting it off because my old TV still works really well! But those old TVs are HUGE! Maybe I can talk everyone into pitching in together towards a new TV for me this Christmas. 😉 Then I won’t feel so guilty about getting rid of the old one.

The flat ones are SO much better for decorating though, aren’t they? In case you have forgotten, the old ones are about as deep as they are wide. HUGE!

I love hiding them amonst the art. One of us needs to invent the “frame” for our screens now so they truly will fit in on the wall instead of the big, black mass they are now.

  2. I WISH I could hide the TV. Our house has a HUGE (like, floor-to-ceiling) built-in set of nooks for TV & AV components. Our TV is massive and black and, well, as much as I like it, I’d like to cover it up even more. Unfortunately, the walls on either side of this built-in monstrosity are like, 9 inches wide.

My other idea is to build the wall forward, or make some sort of rustic plank or beadboard riser & backplate to mount the TV on, so it looks more like furniture than a big gaping hole in the wall (the space was built with tube-tv dimensions, so our flat screen only occupies the front 8 inches of the 3.5′ deep space).
