5 WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR KITCHEN FOR NOT ALOT OF $$$ – PART II

I had such a great time compiling PART I of this POST and  I found so much great inspiration

that I simply had to add a PART II.

One thing I have learned…after all MY YEARS ON EARTH as a Mom, homeowner, Design blogger and decorator and Artist with a smidge of A.D.D is that your home is always changing and evolving…just as you and the people and pets you share your home with are…and To think that our needs and tastes stay the same over time is a big fat piece of denial. Even if you start all brand new…with every single thing fresh and perfect…over time…you will experience change.

DIY SCHOOL DESK TURNED KITCHEN ISLAND – THIS PIECE HAS WORKED ITS WAY AROUND THE HOUSE…OVER THE YEARS!

I have found that while I LOVE a Big makeover – it is those little makeovers that are going to happen much more frequently. These Mini Makeovers are a way that you try things – colors, fabrics, textures and styles – without plunking down the big bucks and potentially making very expensive mistakes.

so on that note…..

Lets looks at 5 MORE ways, more “Mini Makeovers”,  that can add a little needed UMPH to your kitchen for not a lot of dough!

6. ADD a  LAMP

Kitchens tend to have many areas that serve different purposes. the cooking area, the eating area, the prep area and the storage areas…

9. ADD MUSIC

BOSE SOUND LINK COLOR BLUETOOTH SPEAKER II
BOSE SOUND LINK COLOR BLUETOOTH SPEAKER II

This may seem like a silly makeover – AND FOR MANY OF YOU with modern homes with built in speakers this is probably redundant….but for many years I did not have a music source in my kitchen . Then I got a little portable BOSE speaker and all I can say is WOW!!! Music, pod casts, Audible and  iTunes…what a difference music makes in the kitchen . Especially in my big old country house where we do not have an open floor plan and the kitchen is an actual room – i love my MUSIC!!!!

10. PUT AWAY THE CLUTTER

THIS ONE IS  FREE! I discovered when our house was on the market…that when i removed all of the STUFF and CLUTTER from my kitchen counters and surfaces that immediately my kitchen felt cleaner AND it was easier to KEEP CLEAN. Of course, often the items on the counters serve a purpose. But take a look, is there a bowl or a jar or a 12th set of salt and pepper shakers that could be stashed somewhere. Do you really need all of the chips choices jammed into a corner …it is worth an inspection and the absolute WORSE thing that could happen is that all the crap finds its way back to your counters. In the meantime, for a day or so…you will breathe a sigh of relief at the freedom from visual overstimulation! (this includes perhaps a thinning of the refrigerator collections that seem to take on a life of their own!)

  1. Hi Lesli

Your final point is perfect!! I’m going to clear my counter this morning.

It’s simplistic BUT streamlined spaces let me be more creative.

Love your blog ❤ so much! And hello from Sydney!
