DAY 18 – DOG – A DAY – MEET “FOSTER”

FOSTER THE AUSSIE!

IS A MINIATURE AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD

“We got FOSTER from a breeder at 6 months. The family that was going to take him in changed their minds, so he was the only puppy they had. I think it was meant to be!”

“When we arrived at their lake house he came running down the driveway from the back of the house and greeted us. We instantly knew we couldn’t go home without him. We named him Foster because Fosters beer has the slogan “Australian for beer” and he is a miniature Australian Shepherd. 🙂 He has an insane obsession with balls! He carries one around with him constantly and basically only let’s it out of his mouth to eat! “

5 FUN FACTS ABOUT MINIATURE AUSTRAILIAN SHEPHERD

1.Exceptional agility combined with strength and stamina allows for working over a variety of terrain.

2.The double coat of medium length and coarseness may be solid in color or merled, with or without white and/or tan (copper) markings. He traditionally has a docked or natural bobtail.

SWEET LITTLE FOSTER

3. They can become nervous and destructive if left alone too much without enough mental and physical exercise. They need a job to do, as the breed is very intelligent, active and thus easily bored.

4. The gene for the beautiful merle coloration also carries a blind/deaf factor. Be sure to check the hearing on merle puppies.

5. A breeding program to develop the Miniature Australian Shepherd (North American Miniature Australian Shepherd) was begun in 1968 using small Australian Shepherds. Breeders bred them down in size to produce a smaller dog and today continue to strive to produce a mirror image of the Australian Shepherd in a size that fits well into today’s lifestyle, without sacrificing instinct, ability or character.
