    2015 Design Bloggers Conference

I was still on the fence as to whether or not to go again this year ….when I went on the site a few weeks ago and saw the speakers:

MY MIND WAS IMMEDIATELY MADE UP TO GO!!!!

Me and Nathan when I was at the LA conference in 2013. I painted his dogs, Daisy and Nacho for him.

Prior to attending my first conference in 2013…I was still trying to find my NICHE…(this is a BIG WORD in blogging) You need to know your NICHE so you can consistently direct your energies.

I still struggle with “Where do I fit in? AS AN ARTIST?

DECORATOR? ARTIST WHO DECORATES? OR  Just a (super) fan of design.

ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!

ALL I DO know is that when I fell into this group…I felt the most “AT HOME”. Many of the designers have big names in the business and I must admit, I was a little intimidated…I did not want to seem like a poser trying to be a Designer…but I was welcomed with open arms as an ARTIST who complements Design and in the meantime I have expanded my Decorating experience with so much inspiration and guidance from my new friends! I CAN’T WAIT…!! Every time I have gone I get a little scared and excited and every single time I make amazing connections that bring friendships and work!

in FACT, LAST YEAR, on the way out the door, my friend Lisa Mende introduced me to the designer Traci Zeller who she shares a design studio with. Traci and I then collaborated on there 2015 Homearama design house in an Equine neighborhood and I painted 13 Horse paintings!

There is a special rate UNTIL January 24 if you are at all interested. I cannot say enough about how worth every penny it is! The connections alone are worth the price of the ticket!

Also, do not forget to nominate your favorite blogger for the Design Bloggers Hall of Fame Awards. Nominations for the Design Bloggers Hall of Fame are now open. You do not need to be attending. –  hurry, nomination deadline is the end of the day (Eastern Standard Time) on January 15, 2016.

  1. Hi Lesli
I have a blog that is limping along and I need to learn so much and, yes, fear and intimidation weighs huge on my mind. I hate and mean, hate and terrified to fly, so I just bought my ticket to Atlanta and reserved the room. I can’t back out now. I love what I do as a designer and love to write about the funny and crazy parts of the process, including gardening, my pups, our home and my loves and hates. Jump and the net will appear, right? I would love to make any connection to anyone going and feel like a room full of designers would be my heaven…that and a huge glass of wine just to get through. Thank you for your comments on past conferences, it helped solidify my resolve. I’m going and going to love it! I would be grateful for you to look at my blog…I know the faults, I just don’t know how to fix them. Thank you, thank you and I hope to see you there.

    1. Janet,

Thank you so much for reaching out! I always say “all you need is one buddy” an everything else will flow from there! Happy to be your buddy! It can be a little intimidating because there are lots of designers who know each other and this is like a reunion for them so sometimes they are a little preoccupied with that but I have made some GREAT GREAT friends there in the strangest situations. Have a little faith and all will be great. One word of advice All the “cute outfits” I brought to wear to the conference were scraped both years…in favor of casual comfy car clothes I had brought!!! You are sitting all day…with some breaks for snacks so just be comfy. I am big front row person so I can see faces! see you there and I am going to hop over to your blog now!

  2. We’re so excited to be going. Thanks for the information for us first-timers, Lesli! This will be the Fracture team’s first design related conference and we’re so excited to learn how to better grow our blog. Hopefully we’ll see you there! Keep an eye out for us over at booth 6!
