I LOVE yellow. When we first moved here, every major space in this house was painted a Laura Ashley Color called “COWSLIP”…and I thought I would never ever change it.

LIVING ROOM – LAURA ASHLEY COWSLIP
MASTER BEDROOM – 2004 – PAINTED LAURA ASHLEY – COWSLIP

But, of course, I did. And then I changed that color..and changed that color and now I may change that color BACK TO YELLOW!!! We shall see!

Do you have a favorite yellow? One that is your tried and true? Do you find yellow easy or tough to work with?

Thanks for reading…Tune in Thursday of my One Room Challenge week 3 update! Things are rolling along and I can’t wait to share it with you!

  1. I thought that it would be blue. It’s ALWAYS blue. I am not a blue sort of girl and have never understood why so many people are drawn to it when decorating their homes. I love a blue sky. Blue walls? Not so much. But yellow? You could have knocked me over with a feather! I love yellow but rarely see other people using it as the dominant color in their homes. I have had yellow on my walls and ceilings for more than fifteen years. I recently started to think about repainting due to some remodeling we’re planning on. I think I’ve found the color that I want. It’s a lighter shade of…….Yellow, lol!

    1. You and me both! I often wonder if the “popularity” might me more a matter of folks trying to find a yellow that – works which keeps people searching and searching for yellow…though I agree…I do not see it done as much as I used to, but I have been the pale creamy yellows gaining on GREY as a “neutral”…Maria Killiam of Colour me Happy says that colors, the most popular ones, like Gray has been, have a 10 year cycle until the fall into the category of “OMG that looks so “mid 2000-teens” but that other colors, like blue and yellow and even white stay popular through the trends…there are people who will always love them!

  2. I painted most of my walls Behr “popcorn ball” more than 10 years ago and I still love it! It is a pale, creamy color that is a neutral. It makes my “brown wood’ antiques look great and most other colors look good with it, too. I cannot understand the popularity of all this gray. I lived in central Pennsylvania for almost 20 years and found all that gray so depressing. The only good thing was it made you appreciate the sunny days all the more!

    1. I always like colors UNTIL they become too popular. I once heard ” when the builders are using it in new construction – it’s on its way out” … and lately every new house I go into Is all gray . So …

  3. I wanted a sunny yellow for my basement office/studio which had 2 windows in the northeast corner because the room always felt cold. It was a dingey peach when I bought the house which was so ugly! I had never picked out a color to paint a room and didn’t think it would be hard – lol!
I choose what I thougth would be a great sunny color, bought a gallon, came home and began painting, quickly doubt began setting in, the yellow was darker than I thougth and looked strangely familiar…. Since I was in my “office” I was able to grab the thing it that seemed to match my new, partially painted wall to test if I was right, I was – the color was legal pad yellow! Ugh!
    I was so irked!
So I grabbed some white acrylic paint and started adding white (a lot of white!) until I mixed a much better tint and eventually a great color after trying the different mixes on the wall, the lightest was the best. I painted an index card with the lightened mix and went back to the store to have them mix up my new batch, then fiinished painting the room and have loved it ever since!
