IMITATION GAME AND MY ENTRYWAY

YESTERDAY I EXPERIENCED SOME TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES…SO, I spent all day…in between
everything, having my hair highlighted, cleaning behind the dryer – THATS where all the socks go!)
giving Bean a bath  – In between I was trying to fix things…but it was tricky because I in no way
remember messing them up.
What happened was that all of a sudden yesterday….my home page was squashed up into the
Header (top of blog design) and became unreadable. YES – in the BIG PICTURE this fell below a
splinter in my foot…but it still CONSUMED ME!
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT I FIXED IT! AND I HAD A HUGE EPIPHANY IN THE PROCESS!!
Have you seen the movie
“During World War II, mathematician Alan Turing tries to crack the enigma code with help from fellow mathematicians.”
THE IMITATION GAME

(if you haven’t seen the movie this is a spoiler alert)

WELL, fixing the glitch in my computer was similar to breaking the code in the Movie and REAL LIFE because the movie is a based on a true story. I don;t know if many of you have worked with “code” but it truly is a different language. BUT embedded in codes are REAL WORDS and symbols you would recognize and how I fixed the glitch was to find words I recognized and then trace them back to the source of the problem. After HOURS of sleuthing I discovered that in addition to the blog being wonky that the ICON below – was gone!

…and when I found it and somehow figured out how to put it back in. VOILA!!!!! I fixed it!!!!
******************************************
so on the BLOG NEWS.
I started this blog almost 6 years ago. I have loved  getting your comments and questions and support for all these 6 years.
I can’t help but be buoyed by
all the positive feedback. And inspired by the critiques .
Without a doubt, the most frequent comments have been
about my color choices.
I thought what I would for the next few FRIDAYS  is
take a trip through my house and share
my inspiration and the resulting
colors with you!
But where to begin?
How about the beginning!
This is the front hall when we saw
Our Old Country House
for the first time
let me count the ways it disgusted me…the old old old dirty carpet going up the stairs
the wallpaper was old and smoke-stained and nasty…I could go on…
but the potential…
was ALL there!
We have used a few colors in our entryway, but the current color is
SHERWINN WILLIAMS STEAMED MILK.
SHERWINN WILLIAMS STEAMED MILK

I DISCOVERED THIS COLOR LAST YEAR WHEN I VISITED THE 2015 SOUTHERN LIVING

“IDEA” HOUSE – DESIGNED BY BUNNY WILLIAMS.

She used this color throughout the house.
SOUTHERN LIVING MAGAZINE PHOTO OF THE ENTRYWAY…IF YOU NOTICE, SOME DETAILS WERE DIFFERENT …IN REAL LIFE…SEE THE GRANDFATHER CLOCK?
BUNNY WILLIAMS USED STEAMED MILK THROUGHOUT THE IDEA HOUSE. AS YOU CAN SEE
IT TOOK ON MANY PERSONALITIES AND ALLOWED THE DESIGN FEATURES OF EACH ROOM
TO SHINE!!! IN THAT WAY, IT IS A VERY GENEROUS AND UNSELFISH COLOR!

I have never been one to fawn over NeUTRALS but this color swept me away. It is NOT white. It is NOT yellow or BEIGE or even GREIGE. It is just a beautiful color. EASY. SOOTHING –  and the perfect backdrop to ART and Furnishings . I was ready to move beyond the GRAY PALATE which has dominated for 5 years or so and yet, I knew I wanted a simple wall color that LIGHTENED my sometimes dark hall. STEAMED MILK WAS PERFECT. I Picked up a quart on the way home and that as all she wrote!!!!

UPSTAIRS HALL PAINTED STEAMED MILK – BEFORE I PUT IT BACK TOGETHER! SO CLEAN!
UPSTAIRS HALL

Here is what works with STEAMED MILK. It is a soothing neutral, but with some personality and yet
not so much personality that it competes with the artwork, the color
the rugs and the “stuff” which fills our hallS.
My front hall doubles as my Mud room. AND THE DOG ROOM

ME AND CHARLIE- the big boy
This color follows you up the stairs AND WHEREAS other colors I have used struggle with the
changes in light from upstairs to downstairs. steamed milk holds its own and looks LOVELY is
BRIGHT and LOW light without going too YELLOW.

there you have it!!!
and hopefully i will have no more technical snafus but if you happen to drop by and see some weird things just KNOW that it is ALL ME messing around!!!!
TRYING to FIX THINGS!!!
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!!

  1. My monitor is screwed up, so I have to ask, is “steamed milk” a warm or cool color? Because my living room doesn’t get a lot of bright light thanks to a covered porch, and whatever white is in there now looks cold and dingy. When I repaint I want a warm, cozy neutral, and I am not a fan of tans and beiges. So if this is like a warm and creamy white I’ll definitely check it out.

    1. Steamed milk is actually both, just to confuse you more. It is not golden but ever so slightly warm but it also handles blues and other cool colors just fine without turning to yellow.

  2. I am also looking for a creamy white. I have used BM cotton balls in some parts of my house, but I put a sample in my living room, and it looks yellowish in that room. In my son’s room, it doesn’t look yellowish at all.

    1. Phoebe Phoebe had cotton balls in her room and yes, it goes toward yellow. If you want a creamy white that doesn’t go yellow I would recommend Chantilly lace. Or mountain peak white. Both of those do not go towards yellow.
