MONDAY MAKEOVER

A LITTLE while back I did a post on my NEW FRONT DOOR COLOR. Just a little touch of color…added to an otherwise simple country porch.

BLUEDOOR-466x700

I used Benjamin Moore Exterior semi gloss and chose “MAJESTIC BLUE”,

FRONT PORCH – CEILING- BIRDS EGG TRIM- LINEN WHITE, FRONT DOOR – MAJESTIC BLUE, PORCH FLOOR- SHAKER GRAY
FRONT PORCH – CEILING- BIRDS EGG
TRIM- LINEN WHITE, FRONT DOOR – MAJESTIC BLUE, PORCH FLOOR- SHAKER GRAY

which is a couple  hits darker than the “BIRDS EGG” which I have on the Haint Blue Porch Ceiling. The trim is painted Benjamin Moore Linen White…. I got the miss-tint can for a whopping $2…Thats 2 bucks.  The consensus was that the new color brightened up the front porch…but one commenter, who loved the new color, made a point of noticing my “hideous” screen door… and that word…”hideous”…while it would not have been my word of choice on someone’s blog…lit a fire under my butt to get rid of that ….

…well …hideous door!

BEFORE AND AFTER FRONT DOOR

This was a relatively easy fix. The old storm door was inside of its own metal frame so that had t be removed…old holes were caulked over and sanded and fresh paint was added.

How can it be that the simplest of makeovers can often times have the BIGGEST IMPACT. We have battled that door for almost 10 years. The dogs and the kids broke the plexiglass at least 3 times and – for the money we have spent on replacing the spring closure…I am certain we could have had a NEW DOOR CUSTOM MADE.

Oh well…lessons learned. I LOVE not having that nasty old door. and maybe someday I can replace it with an updated authentic farmhouse storm door…but for now…sweet Majestic Blue!

see you tomorrow..here is my question for you…do you have a storm door? Do you think they are hideous?  are the old fashioned? I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this very pressing subject!!!

  1. Dear Lesli, so glad I could be the “fire” to take off your old storm door!
I really didn’t mean to hurt your feelings by calling the door hideous.
I love how your door looks even more and love everything else you’ve
done in your old farm house. Really enjoy reading your blog.
    No hard feelings 😉
    Best wishes, Loren

  2. We do have storm doors, but we live at the beach and need protection from nor’easters. But, I like the kind that I can paint the same colour as the proper door to make it look more streamlined. Furthermore, I do like being able to open the door and allow sunshine and air to flow into the house on nice days.

  3. Much better!!!!!! And yes, we do have storm doors (offers a bit more security, I think, especially with a dof), but one is painted (12 panes down 3/4 way -fairly old-fashioned and different. The other – at the beach – is clear view and not even discernable from the street.

  4. I am in the same camp as Gretchen on this one. I love to be able to open the front door on a warm sunny day and enjoy the view and breezes, but have never been a fan of how a storm/screen door actually looks. We have been in several homes over the years, and always try to find a “low-profile” door that fits the design style of the house, and get bonus points if we can paint it to match the front door. (The full-view doors are usually our first pick.) BTW, Love the color you chose for your door! If mine weren’t a stained wood door, I would go with a great pop of color like you chose— adds a bit of personality!

  5. Love it! Oh my gosh, it’s amazing what a small change can do! We have a storm door (a new one) on our 90+ year old home and it’s pretty low key; just a thin border around glass and a “hidden” screen we can pull down to air out the house. It’s great because it’s not noticeable!!
Lesli, I love the blue and the blue skies! Enjoy your beautiful door and the great feeling from taking off the old “hideous” storm door!

  6. Our storm door is way too functional to remove. We get plenty of cold weather and snow storms in central PA and when it is nice our front door is open all the time to let in fresh air and sunlight. As for hideousness, I suppose if a storm door is banged up and old it’s hideous; but if it’s clean and new-ish it’s not 🙂

  7. Our previous house had a ‘hideous” storm door. I even sold a doll from my childhood collection to replace it. Great improvement. Our current home does not have a storm door. The door is corral with robins egg blue accents. If you can get away with no storm door, it really lets the beauty of the door pop so to speak. Your new door looks fabulous Lesli.

  8. I can’t believe it! I think I just met my new best friend. This is exactly how I live and think. Looking forward to all that is in the future.
