THE A / Z FAMILY of 4 MOVED INTO THEIR DREAM HOME A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO.
This wonderful young family of 4 has already grown to 5 and will soon be 6! My goal was to give them a living room that would BE SAFE, BEAUTIFUL AND DURABLE for little ones, while still bringing comfort and functional beauty for the GrOWN-UPS.
I had a great head start…the walls in most of the fist floor rooms are painted one of my favorite , AND one of THE most versatile colors – Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter.
THE DECORATING PROJECT INVOLVED THE LIVING ROOM, THE DINING ROOM AND THE STUDY. The current living room furniture was less that a year old…was going to be relocated to the study. The rug and coffee table and rustic sofa table (all also almost new) would remain.
BEFORE – THE ROOM IS HUGE AND SPACIOUS. The existing furniture was to be relocated to the study.
THE RUG AND COFFEE TABLE REMAINED…THE RUG MAKING A GREAT ANCHOR.
THE RUG WAS OUR POINT OF DEPARTURE. WITHOUT BEING TOO LOUD, IT CONTAINS SO MANY GREAT COLORS TO WORK WITH!
COFFEE TABLE AND RUG
I wanted the furniture to be durable, and comfortable …as well as pretty. There is a HUGE kids playroom downstairs , so I wanted THIS to be the room where the adults could unwind…as well as the whole family. The sofa’s are by Four Seasons Furniture. They make the most beautiful, practical , slipcovered furniture I have ever seen. The slip covers come off in sections – the arms, the skirt etc…so that cleaning is not a major issue. You can replace sections as need be…for example if the cat claws your sofa skirt but the rest is pristine, all you need to replace is the skirt!
I chose a Very classic and timeless flax colored Belgian linen in an ENGLISH ROLL ARM STYLE. .
The CAMRYN chairs are upholstered in Sarah Richardson’s Denman Pool. The custom made accent pillows are in Sarah Richardson Brookhaven Meadow and Coral. I liked how all the colors coördinated in Sarah’s fabrics, leaving room to bring in more pops of color in the future.
I swapped out the knobs on the above sofa table.
The first time I saw this wall I knew it needed something Tall…with space for toy storage. The kids are still very young but eventually all of their stuff that wanders in will begin to need a home. This home has incredible storage but with kids..I think there can never be too many places to stash things! I Guess I will need one more basket come summer!
THE HUTCH IS BRACKETED TO THE WALL TO INSURE IT DOES NOT TIP.
FOUR SEASON’S CAMRYN CHAIR IN DENMAN POOL. CUSTOM PILLOWS – SARAH RICHARDSON COTTINGHAM MEADOW. My goal was to keep it VERY simple, and classic but not boring…knowing that this family is just getting started. I left room for collections to grow, kids art to be featured and new colors to be introduced.
I LOVE THE OPENNESS OF AND LIGHT INHERENT TO THIS HOME.
I GOT THE HANDCRAFTED “EAT” SIGN AT THE GREENWOOD COUNTRY STORE. IT WAS THE VERY FIRST ITEM I FOUND FOR THE MAKEOVER! THE KITCHEN WALLS ARE BENJAMIN MOORE STONINGTON GRAY
REMEMBER GINGER AND GUS? THIS IS WHERE THEY LIVE NOW…AND I CAN NOT THINK OF A BETTER HOME!
YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY BASKETS! I LOVE THE MIRROR ABOVE THE FIREPLACE. THE DAY I STUMBLED UPON THAT…WAS A GOOD DAY!
I LOVE BUILT INS – FILLING AND STYLING THESE WAS PURE JOY! I LEFT ROOM FOR THEIR COLLECTIONS TO GROW!
THE BUILT-INS WERE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE DIMENSION AND CHARACTER…AND ALSO – STORE BOOKS! THE BOTTOM SHELVES ARE KIDS FRIENDLY…WITH LOTS OF GREAT READS FOR STORY TIME AT ARMS REACH.
I LOVE THE COZY LITTLE NOOKS!
The client texted me the morning after the installation and told me she felt like she had woken up to a dream. I am so happy that her home now really feels comfy and relaxing as well as beautiful. I can’t wait to she you the STUDY and DINING ROOM NEXT WEEK!
