JUST LIKE RIDING A BIKE

I AUDITIONED FOR A PLAY LAST NIGHT!

IT WAS TERRIFYING AND EXHILARATING AND TERRIFYING….AND Oh my Gosh

SO VERY FUN!

I may not have told you this, but I used to be an Actress…a million years ago – and certainly 2-3 careers ago…It was all I ever dreamed of being…what I majored in college and then what I went to graduate school for…and immediately upon graduation I moved to my beloved New York City to pursue my dream. And I did…I pounded the pavement and went on auditions and did days on the soaps and shoe modeled….and waitressed…and did some plays and small parts in things….

…and then one day I woke up terrified that somehow…if I continued to live the life I was living …that I  might wake up one day and I would have missed my BIGGER dream…that of being a mother and of having a family. And I was not about to wait around for a man to make that happen and if need be – by golly, I would be a single Mom!!! – but that would mean I would need to be responsible and have a steady income…not waitressing…which is a job I loved but which I could not see myself doing forever….

ONE OF MY LAST HEADSHOTS…

ONE OF MY LAST HEAD SHOTS...THANK GOD FOR DIGITAL!!
ONE OF MY LAST HEAD SHOTS…THANK GOD FOR DIGITAL!!

So I decided that I would get a degree in Nursing (miraculously I got into school in Boston) and then I would come back to NYC… make a living as a Nurse…and then Act…and if my Actress ship came in, well then I could just hop ships…and grab my oscar and run off into the sunset with my baby!

…but if you are living a REAL life…you know that things cross your path everyday that change your direction and maybe even change your dreams…and so right on schedule I moved to Boston into apartment number 2 and THAT NIGHT  my new neighbor…the guy from apartment 3, came down to say “Welcome to Charlestown!” and he offered me a beer…and I ,  as they say…was history…

…That neighbor and I just celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary !

FAST FORWARD 3 KIDS AND A MILLION YEARS….AND a play was announced and it is a role I have seriously wanted to play my whole life…well much of my life, and I HAD to go…and oh my GOSH…it was like I ran into an old friend..a BEST friend…I felt so at home and happy and me and like my friend Suzanne said, “just like riding a bike”…and I did my best…the best you can do after a million years and now we wait and see if I get a call back…but I do believe that no matter what …I found something, someone I lost last night and I am so happy. just so happy.

  1. Such a sweet “history” story there – thanks for sharing! And I’ll keep my fingers crossed you get the part (if it is meant to be ……)!

  2. I AM SO FRIGGIN’ PROUD OF YOU!!!!
Just one of the MANY hats that you wear, and have worn, and how wonderful that you jumped onto that bike again. Whatever happens, you know that Theatre is, and always will be, there for you.

    GO LES!!!!

    ……….BTW……I remember that headshot………..

  3. Lesli—

I agree with Kathy M— but I see not only Tate, but Phoebe and Cooper, too. Its the eyes; lucky kids all got your beautiful eyes!
Crossing fingers you get the part— it will be fun to read about all the adventures “behind the scenes”…

  4. So happy for you! You are so talented and creative that I’m sure you’ll do great! I’m still following my passion and love hearing from others who are doing the same. <3
