PAINTED WOODEN FLOORS

WINDSOR SMITH
Everything for my Kitchen Renovation is in the “TO GO” Position.
I have searched and prices and shopped and wished and researched and saved
 and ordered and waited patiently…
and soon…very soon it will all come together…
well, that is…
except
for the floor.
Our kitchen floors are hideous.
A not so horrible Armstrong vinyl that over 9 years
we have trashed…with life and paint and dirt and pets and
paint and a bit more paint.
In addition, the layers of flooring make it a bit precarious to stand cabinet side without your
toes hitting the underside of the kitchen cabinets.
But what to do.
I could tile..and I might tile.
But recently I had a epiphany…
WHY NOT PAINT THEM?
YES!!!!
Take out the vinyl, and upon the sub floor beneath…prime the heck out of them
design a pattern and paint them….
I AM CONTEMPLATING DOING AN OVERSIZED HERRINGBONE PRINT…I CAN SEE IT…
AND I THINK IT COULD BE AMAZING!
I been doing some GOOGLING and here are some inspiration photos…

HAVE YOU EVER PAINTED A FLOOR???

  1. Yes, I’ve paint our kitchen floor and I repaint it a different colour all the time – to match whatever window treatments are going on. I say “go for it” and loved your inspiration – thanks!

  2. Yes! I have painted florrs multiple times! In our previous house – 100 years old and with many charming quirks like yours – and I loved it. In my current home we had a refrigerator induced flood in our kitchen a few years ago and I couldn’t find flooring to match what we had and then we decided while ripped apart to go for it and put on an addition and flooring had to wait budget-wise, I painted the floor with deck enamel and it was the easiest kitchen floor I’ve ever had. I’ve painted designs, stripes, diamonds and faux rugs on beat up ugly hardwoods and primed sub- floor. Unfortunately this was BB ( before blogging) so no great documentation other than a few pics 🙂 You can make it amazing!! Go for it. If
it isn’t what you thought then lay flooring over it later 🙂 But I’m thinking you will love it and the wear spots look good to me on a painted floor but it’s easy to touch it up if you need to. Now I want to paint a floor or a faux rug!!!

  3. Yes! We painted our sub floors and we LOVE it! It has been over a year and they are still holding up and look great. Do it! You will love it!

  4. We were going to paint our cement sub floor in our den a la young house love did their sunroom a few years back BUT, it would have been major $$$ to have someone come in and sand the floors smooth (we are not DIYers in our house other than paint). So, we’re having a family friend come over and epoxy it! Epoxy comes in a crazy range of colors now-a-days so we’ll be able to tailor it exactly how we want!
