REPLACING MIMI AND POPPIS KITCHEN SINK

SOMETIMES… you just need a little pick me up…or in this case..a NEW Kitchen sink.

WE are visiting my in-laws in Upstate New York this week and my Mother In Law has enlisted my assistance in finding and replacing her kitchen sink.

The existing sink is pretty beat up…but the rest of the kitchen is in nice condition, granite counter tops, a pretty tile backsplash and white cabinetry.

She would like to replace her white sink with a STAINLESS STEEL SINK.  Great Move. I have never looked back since replacing ours…easier in all ways, in my humble opinion…though knowing me, in a few years I will yearn for the bright white…and will finally get my Dream White Farm Sink. But I digress.

We need to get a “TOPMOUNT” sink. You can use an undermount sink with Granite countertops, however, he countertops are cut for the previous sink which is TOP MOUNT. If you are using an EXISTING hole in your countertops and replacing a top mount sink, you need to get a same sized TOPMOUNT sink to cover that hole.

Before we go sink shopping… FIRST we had to do a little homework.

1. Evaluate the exiting plumbing. The existing drain is dead center with pipe leading off to the two sides, so almost anything will work.

2. Measure the existing hole in the Countertop AND the existing sink. 33″ x 22″

3. Decide what type of faucet you will be using…AND the number of corresponding holes your sink will need. She wants an 4 HOLE arc faucet with two lever handles and a sprayer..first choice of finish is brass.

4. It is always good to set a budget, which will help with weeding out choices.Preferably under $500.

CHOOSING THE SINK

One conundrum I met when looking for a top mount sink, is the lack of choice. Much of what is being done ARE Undermount sinks…OH WELL,

Here are some choices…(We are doing all the shopping at Home Depot, so I can go there in person and help her choose),

AT HOMEDEPOT.COM, when I entered the search “stainless sink” I got 1929 choices. When I narrowed the search to “Stainless sinks top mount” only 164 choices came.

We then narrowed the search by choosing “stainless sink top mount singlewhich gave us 93 choices. Then I entered the measurements which are 33″ I got 9 CHOICES. Of those choices, 4 were over our budget.Of the 5, two were nearly identical….

This left 4 choices:

Kohler Top Mount Vault sink
KOHLER Vault Top or Undermount Stainless Steel 33x22x9.3125 4-Hole Kitchen Sink ( this is the one we have)

Elkay Signature Top Mount Stainless Steel 33x22x8-1/4 in. 4-hole Single Bowl Kitchen Sink

AND THE WINNER IS:

We decided to go with this last one. THE GLACIER BAY ALL IN ONE TOP MOUNT..

It meets all the criteria, affordable – $219 ,

it got 4.5 star rating from consumers,

the size is perfect and is better grade at 18 gauge stainless.

.but best of all..it is IN STOCK and can be installed while we are here!

more to come!!!!
