BEFORE the Makeover – the Kids Bathroom

I contemplated NEVER showing you our bathrooms.
There are just so many things about them that annoy me and that I desire to change.
But then I thought,
“Why?”
That would go completely against my philosophy of decorating
which is… that
MOST decorating is a work in progress.
And while you may always and forever
have things on your wish list
(I know I will)
there area myriad of creative and affordable ways to:
as my buddy Tim Gunn says,
“Make it WORK!”

With that in Mind
here is the
BEFORE KIDS
BATHROOM TOUR
MY Old Country House has 3 bathrooms
1. Is the size of a closet, and in fact, resides where a closet used to be
under the stairs. It is adorable.
The other two FULL Bathrooms are upstairs.
Today I will focus on
the kids bathroom.
Wait, I take that back. Presently, it is my 15 year old sons bathroom
and the rest of us use mine!

So Tate’s bathroom is about to get an update
Tile floors, subway tile behind the shower
and if possible we will close off the window
which at one time went to the outside, but
now faces the old sleeping porch.

Picture this if you will….. When we FIRST saw the house, and as it is a TRUE
4 over 4. The bathroom, was simply one of the 4 upstairs rooms and measured 18 x 17, just like every other room in the house.
It contained the tub above, a nasty wall sink and a toilet. Thats it. It was gross.

I am proud to say that I put the shower in all by myself!
If you have a Clawfoot tub, there is  great website called,
of all things” ClawfootClassics.com”. That is where I got this
special shower curtain which goes completely around the tub.
The out side shower curtain I made with Two of My favorite
Amy Butler Prints.

To save space we did not put a door on the linen closet.
I made a curtain for that to coordinate with the shower curtain.
The mirror is Target.
Cabinet and coordinating wall shelf – Pottery Barn.

Light fixture – Pottery Barn.Faucet – Ebay
Here is a great story –
When we were fixing the whole house up, it came time to buy ALL of the accessories for the Three Bathrooms. Those can get expensive – towel bars, door hooks, toilet paper holders and hand towel holders…wow! it all adds up.
So I went to Lowes…..
and you know how sometimes at Lowes they have a rack that
has the odd hodge-podge of random clearance items?
Well, apparently THAT very day,
they were RE-DOING the Bathroom accessory section
and ALL of the OLD accessory DISPLAYS were on sale.
Yes, you had to BUY the whole Big Board
which displayed a SET Including a
towel bar, the toliet paper holder, the had towel holder and a door hook…
for $15 each!
Needless to say, I bought all three of them. Saved Hundreds and actually
they were ones I probably would have picked.
THAT was a Great score!

  1. I love your fabric choices for the bathroom redo. Cant wait to see it! We just recently (mostly) finished our master bathroom. We’d been working on it for about two years! But with full schedules and doing it all ourselves(on a tight budget) and in trying to maintain the character of the old house, we’re happy to be done. All that’s left is painting the floor(since we cant tile it)
