P – HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING?

L- I started my blog as a way to showcase my Artwork. I would post maybe every day or maybe once a month…then in February 2011 I started “MY OLD COUNTRY HOUSE”, this blog, as a way to showcase everything I do…under one roof – the ARtwork, the DIY Projects, the Decorating, The musings, The Coveting, The writing, The kids, the dogs…and THE Dog – Charlie…

HALL7P – WHAT WORK HAVE YOU DONE IN THE PAST?

L – I have 2 Master’s Degrees, one in Theatre and One in Nursing. I was, well I am, an Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and I worked in inpatient Obstetrics for 13 years. I stopped working outside of the home in 2004, when my Mother moved to the area. She passed away in 2007.

THIS has become my real life. Blogging, Painting, Decorating AND RAISING A FAMILY. I have recently started helping friends with their homes. And I paint daily. I love what i do. Except the part about not having CO-workers…i LOVE co-workers, in a way, my readers become my co-workers.

P – WHAT WOULD YOU CALL YOUR STYLE?

L – Lesli Style. YOUNG HOUSE LOVE called it “Happy casual”.I like that. It is just me and the things I like, and the things we all make, the kids ART and ceramics…there is NOTHING in this house that does not serve a purpose and have a story. And yet…at the end of the day…the most important thing is the family that lives here. They are far and away my best work.

phoebeWPP – ARE YOU FUNNY?

L – Sometimes. Yesterday I made a great joke, well, pun, and I did not even know it. I had this old JCREW T shirt on that is pink with an ANCHOR across the front, and my daughter , well you,

and you said “I have not seen that T shirt for a while.”

and I said, “Yeah, I know, I don’t even think it fits great anymore, but you know me and my obsession with ANCHORS, I could never throw an Anchor away…

get it…”ANCHORS AWEIGH!” WE  laughed til we had to pull over the car.

P – OR, HOW ABOUT THE TIME YOU WORE TWO DIFFERENT COLOR BOOTS TO LOWES??

L – Yeah, That is a different kind of funny. Like toliet paper on your shoe funny,

unplanned and says way more about you thaN you had intended.

Accidental Funny.

P -WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU?

L –  I am just finishing up a wave of Portraits and I will begin painting my next show which opens late Fall. I also want to do a “POP UP” show this summer TBA…not sure where or when…but as soon as I figure it out you will be the first to know…

P – HOUSE PLANS?

L – We are pretty tapped out on BIG projects, so it will be back to the little makeovers for me. This is my favorite part. Staring at a corner…thinkig “HMMM What if I???” and then gathering up all the stuff from around the house and making a change happen…surprising the kids with a transformation when they get home from school. Oh Wait, I actually remembered that I am going to do something really cool to the boys room. Phoebes room ahs gotten all the press. Now it is the boys turn. I LOve the simplicity of boys rooms, they really are about finding the most utilitarian items that are also cool, but understated. I get excited just talking about it.

The front porch

…..a reader asked me yesterday if I was going to ever address the outside of my house…that is was “BLAND” compared to the inside…To me the outside really takes care of itself. There is endless natural beauty which surrounds us. Structurally we are sound, and this house is 130 year old unpainted and unstained Stucco. I will ONLY paint or stain that when and if we were to have the whole house exterior redone…and THAT is not in the cards right now. For now, I am happy with where we are  and I might paint the front door to make it less bland.

P – THANK YOU FOR THIS INTERVIEW. CAN YOU MAKE ME BREAKFAST…?
