WEDDING SEASON

I kind of miss it. There were a few years there where I was in at least one wedding a summer…

…and many, many  more that I simply attended. It was so fun, traveling, dressing up, seeing old friends… making new ones, dancing, cocktails, drama, decorations…little flower girls and ring bearers…and meeting adorable babies…and then. Finally ME! and then….

We were ALL hitched….then came the BABY YEARS…and so on and so on and so on. Now I have friends whose children are getting married and one friend who is expecting her first grandchild!…the beat goes on…one door closes…another opens at the same time…it is JUST LIFE!

Today I thought it would be fun to take a tour through my house and see if I can find

10 WEDDING GIFTS (18 YEARS LATER) THAT STILL IN USE…

REED AND BARTON FLATWARE
and 10. our REED AND BARTON FLATWARE….hands down the MOST USED Wedding gift.

…..poking around, it was fascinating and eye opening to see what we no longer use…what has lasted and what we have destroyed…many times over…I bet we have been through 100 glasses and at least 3 sets of pots and pans.

One thing is for sure, as I poked around the internet, looking at Weddings ON PINTEREST now days…THEY have become such a wonderful opportunity for creativity!!! I could spend all day looking at all the little personal touches…special LITTLE THINGS AND HOW personal they have become!!! My head was spinning, maybe when all the kids are out of the house, I can turn our house and our yard into a place where people get married!!! who knows!!!

WHAT DO YOU STILL USE?

  1. My husband’s grandmothers c. 1933 wedding sterling flatware. I was beyond blessed to have received this flatware from hubby’s Mom when we got engaged because I was the third daughter-in-law to marry into the family!

  2. My friends and family were so generous. I still use the vases, frames, pitchers, crystal and the china. I have been known to pull the china out and serve pizza. : ) I could keep going on… Hard to believe that it has been 13 years of marriage. Glad to have him by my side everyday (well, most days) : )

  3. I have only a few wedding gifts still in use, but then, I’ve been married 33 years as of last week. The primary one is a wonderful set of Chicago cutlery knives, which are still in daily use. I always give good knives as wedding presents now; they are something you don’t think about much but learn to value. I also received 2 corning ware handled bowls and a pie plate with a plastic keeper. We used the pie plate and keeper until it cracked with age; the corning ware is all still in use.

  4. Celeste, you and I may have been married on the same day (June 14, 1980)! I can think of one gift, from friends of my parents, we still use daily. A tall wooden peppermill/salt shaker combo, with a pewter cap on the top. Everyone loves it, everyone uses it, and it is easy to spot among the clutter because of its impressive height. Still grinds beautifully, after all these years!

  5. On Monday I will be married 24 years. We planned our wedding in 2 weeks so we didn’t register for anything but we did receive some good gifts. My husbands boss bought us a Waterford vase that we still use all the time. My husband actually bought me a place setting of Lennox china that I loved but when we could afford to buy more, it was discontinued. I kept my one place setting and this year for Christmas, he surprised me with 12 more place settings that he found online plus some serving pieces…yes, I cried. We used it for the first time on January 19th for breakfast on our daughters wedding day, with all our children and grandson. I could cry again just thinking about it.

  6. We got tons of place settings of our everyday Spode Blue Italian. We use it every day, and have enough to replace all the chipped plates (my dishwasher chips them! aarugh!). we also use our Crate & Barrel glasses. I wish they still carried the style, because I love the way they feel when you pick them up. And some towels with our initials on them. And champagne flutes.
