WHAT TO DO WITH A NON WORKING FIREPLACE – 5 IDEAS!

IKEA DESK WITH PBTEEN CHAIR

One of the first things that stole my heart when I very first saw this house, despite it’s decrepit state, were the 5 fireplaces…all non working, but still, here is just something so magical about a fireplace..the mantle, the decorating possibilities…their demand for attention…I love them. And over the years I have found that there about a million ways to use them, style them, including NOT doing anything….

HERE ARE SOME WAYS TO STYLE A NON WORKING FIREPLACE

  1. Just wondering why they are non-working? Did you ever look into getting them up and running again?
Love all the ideas. So glad our fireplace works. Nothing beats a roaring fire in the winter.
    P.S. so glad you aren’t moving …..

  2. Trying to win the CUSTOM PET PORTRAIT by you dear Lesli!

Roscoe loves to eat cucumbers fresh from the garden, he waits outside the garden fence for me to throw one to him. Roscoe also has a”sweet tooth” for chilled cucumbers! Yes, chill the cucumbers and he goes crazy, guess they taste like dessert to him! 🙂

  3. We have a huge double-sided non-working fireplace that my husband is constantly using as his “office.” The fireplace is the perfect size for his landscape architecture drafting paper. I’ve found a solution for his drafting papers in the form of a rolling gift-wrap cart, but he still insists on storing the random design in our fireplace : ).

  4. Our old house originally had eight fireplaces. It’s a situation that newer-home owners can’t grasp. Previous owners dispensed with two of them, bricking the openings and plastering over them to make them disappear. Of the remaining six, only one is actually safe enough to use. Wouldn’t ya know that it’s in the room that we haven’t restored yet and don’t hardly use. (Had to reline that chimney to make the basement boiler safe. Might as well do the fireplace on the floor above, since the workers were there and the scaffolding was assembled. Those ‘might as well’ items will break the bank, as you certainly already know.)

    1. Connie…YOU UNDERSTAND!!!! Add to all of the cost, feasibility, ….we have the same issue …..where the only non bricked up FP is in the dining room….a tight fit as it is….we have contemplated having a wood burning stove outfitted to go into the space…much safer, heat for days…but ultimately we just have never been flush enough to do something like this…vs…all of the many other things that life brings the check for!!!!! xo

  5. I am so in love with the antler idea and the wall paper idea. So out of the ordinary. I may have to use them in my home when we reach that point.

    1. I LOVE the antlers too! Wallpaper is just so fun and easy…Hygge and West where I got Phoebe;s wallpaper also does these small sheets for folks that need to be able to easily remove their wallpaper.

  6. We’ve used a beautiful mantle as a headboard for quite a few years. We painted it to match the woodwork. It has fit both full and queen beds, been used in our bedroom and now the guest room. It looks great.

  7. Would love to win a custom pet portrait, Lesli! You are so talented. Our French Bulldog, Elvis, loves balls. His favorite thing to do with them, other than chew them up, is to dig a hole and roll the ball into the hole with his nose. Then he just stands in front of it and barks at it for hours. Super annoying but oddly endearing.
