MONDAY MAKEOVER – 5 NEW ABSTRACT PAINTINGS

I live in a Rural town, just outside of a jewel of a small town just two hours from the Capital of the United States. If you have never driven through Virginia in the Spring…you should at least once. The greens are so blue-green lovely and they wrap themselves around you and make you feel safe.

When I think about my life and the journey I have taken as an artist…I often get to the point where I landed in Rural Virginia and I am basically stumped. No part of who I am pointed or pulled me here…other than my own inner voice which followed my life here. But I do feel like that process is one of my favorite parts of LIFE. The parts that don’t make sense drive me to create. And THAT makes perfect sense, the most sense of all.

I paint in my dining room. The dining room table, a long John Stuart table with two leaves is usually divided in two sections…with one half my paints, brushes, inspiration photos and diet coke cans and the other half is kept tidy with a tablecloth..and that is where we eat. Unlike most homes, our dining room is probably the most active room in the house. I paint, we eat, the kids do homework and crafts and print up papers…it is a busy room. It is also to Puppy’s favorite room to have “accidents” which drives me nuts but Rome was not built-in a day.

I like to listen to something, music, a book or most often a movie or TV show while I paint. Right now I am RE-watching all of MAD MEN – getting myself back into the storyline and the 1960’s and 70’s  in preparation of the last episodes which start NEXT week!!! The ART in MAD MEN Is INCREDIBLE! (great video here) Pollock and Rothko, abstracts and color…I will often rewind to look at the ART piece and wonder about the story behind them. The authenticity and details in that show are unsurpassed…

I was inspired to paint some Abstract work last week. And as usual ended up in the PINKS. I LOVE painting ABSTACTS. It is a nice balance to my commission work where details are important to getting the likeness correct…One is coloring INSIDE and the other coloring OUTSIDE the lines…
