The MASTER BATHROOM
New Bathroom..including new ceilings!
I found a BEFORE picture…this goes way back…
Shower- VIGO 47″ X 47″ NEO ANGLE SHOWER from HOMECLICK. this is an item worth price shopping for. VIGO makes great products and can keep their prices down because they are only available through websites. PRICE shop – I hit a Presidents Day weekend sale and saved $250 – total cost $1100 for the whole kit- walls and floor.
SHOWER FAUCET- Listen up. ALL NEWLY INSTALLED showers must be PRESSURE BALANCE ones. But, the pressure balance showers do not work well in Big old Country Houses. In addition, the part that goes inside the wall was fine and did not need to be replaced. What I found out the hard way was that the external hardware for the NEW showers, often does not fit the OLD internal hardware.BUT, I after buying and trying and returning about 5 trim kits, I finally found one, The MARIELLE BY PFISTER…IT fitS my American Standard internal unit…and I actually did a little happy jig the day I found it!!!!
The SUBWAY tile – from LOWES. gives the shower a Custom appearance and elevates the look.Comes in boxes of 100 tiles, or by the individual tile for .22 cents each. AND You can return any tiles you do not use.The decorative tiles around the center were a last-minute addition, I ran to Lowes to get some more subway tile and these decorative tiles were on sale for 75 cents vs the original $2.50. I thought they would make a nice addition and dress the shower up a bit. I LOVE them.
VANITY – This is worth the time it might take to find the right piece. OR you may even have the right piece right under your nose in our own home. I have yet to find any custom vanities I like more than this option. $250 at CIRCA used furniture in Charlottesville.
KOHLER ARCHER SINK – This sink by Kohler is the largest drop in sink when it comes to coverage of your vanity top. I knew the top would be just the varnished top of the dresser so wanted as much overlap as possible. LOVE THIS SINK! Under $200 at Lowes.
KOHLER DEVONSHIRE TOILET- I have said it before and I will say it again, I think it is worth the few extra pennies to buy a snazzier looking toilet. Come on, it is the “anchor” of the room…and this new Devonshire uses less water, less space and looks pretty to boot! Price shop – we got this one at Lowes for under $300
The floor is Hexagon Tile from Home depot…Post here.
SINK FAUCET– Randolph Morris 8 Inch Bridge Lavatory Faucet with Cross Handles. In polished Chrome. I adore this faucet.
I agonized, (sorta sounds stupid now) but I spent hours trying to decide whether to go with Brass or Polished Chrome in the master Bathroom. I finally chose the Chrome. Both are timeless, and both would look great but I just did not think that over time the Brass wold keep me as happy as the Chrome does. again…so silly. but it mattered at the time.
MEDICINE CHEST AND TABLE- The medicine chest is from Pottery Barn and the little Demi Table is from our new Homegoods! It was $59 and while I intended to paint it, it looks so nice with the cabinet I am leaving it alone.
The “SUSSEX” sconce above the window is from Pottery Barn and matches the TP Holder and Hooks. The Green Scalloped Mirror was a $15 Thrift store find that I spray painted Kelly Green. I LOVE this mirror!!!
The walls are painted Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue and the Beadboard and trim is Mountain Peak White. I love standing at my new sink and looking out across the back yard…I can see the Cows next door and the kids and pets running around…It is so peaceful…
. Did you know Doors use up 7 square feet of room space. Well I am excited to say we have solved that Issue with a BARN DOOR!!! and Hardware from REAL SLIDING HARDWARE
THE MASTER BATHROOM!!! THANKS FOR VISITING!
THE KIDS BATHROOM
THE TRUE TEST OF ANY MAKEOVER IS HOW IS HOLDS UP OVER TIME. THE KIDS BATHROOM MAKEOVER HAS BEEN A SUCCESS ON ALL FRONT AND LOOKS AS FRESH AND HAPPY TODAY AS IT DID 3 YEARS AGO WHEN I GUT RENOVATED IT.
LETS TAKE A LOOK!
(Some things do not hold up – sadly that adorable toothbrush holder fell onto the tile floor and broke – lesson learned!)
There were a few finishing touches to do and some changes I made…but I FINALLY got in there and snapped away last night!!!
The little coral/orange soap-dish I got at one of my favorite Charlottesville stores “O’SUZANNAH!”…and it was the catalyst behind the “changes” I spoke of. I LOVED how it complimented the Ocean Air Blue walls….and so…VOILA!
The mirrors, originally the same finish as the VANITIES/Consoles…were painted to POP!
…”CORAL CABLES” by Benjamin Moore.
……and in fact….I added a custom made Galvanized Schoolhouse pendant…
The white shower curtain and liner I got a TARGET.!!
The Pale Seafoam Blue shower curtain I made from a fabric from SPOONFLOWER called
“Beyond the Sea Ikat “by
threeyellowplums
by the way…side note here…
SPOONFLOWER IS AN INCREDIBLE RESOURCE for unique fabrics…

THE LITTLE POWDER ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS
Tucked under the staircase…like Harry Potter’s room..is our 1/2 bath – Powder room. I completely gutted the room a few years ago. One of the most important decoration lesson I learned is that sometimes dark colors are exactly what tiny spaces crave.
The Powder Room Makeover is complete!!
There was a very visible seam on the left wall. I planned to cover it with a mirror or photo, when my husband suggested trying to match the paint color and perhaps touch it up a bit. Skeptical, I took a wallpaper scrap to my Benjamin Moore store and they matched the color in FLAT paint. I painted the seam…and then touched up other imperfections (remember – the wallpaper pieces were remnants of a discontinued print). You absolutely cannot see any seams OR Imperfections now!!! Thanks Hubs!
THE CUBBY
I removed the sliding doors, to paint the inside of the cabinet, with every intention to replace them afterward. But loved the way it opened up the room.
The open space made the room feel bigger and brighter and more importantly, gave useable storage to the room….I went around the house grabbing up items to style it with and I also picked up the two baskets at Target. The vase and book are gifts from Anthropologie, the pewter Bunny cup was a gift when Phoebe was born, and the Beth Mueller “Emerge” vase was a gift from my Best Friend Trish.
PRETTY POTTY
Who ever had the brilliant idea to start making toilets more attractive is a GENIUS in my book.
I mean, toilets are the centerpiece of most bathrooms, so why shouldn’t they have some style?
I adore this TRESHAM toilet by Kohler.
It has similar lines to the Vintage inspired Pedestal sink and is very water conserving to boot!.
LIGHTING
I did not change the light fixture.
Just cleaned it up a bit. I love it. We got it when we first moved in. It is from REJUVINATION lighting and it is called the “ADRIAN” fixture. We needed a fixture that could be turned off right on the light itself, not with a switch.
I look at this room and it makes me so happy. I proved to myself that I can do it! I tackled tasks I had never done like removing a toilet, a sink and the floors and I boosted my confidence by laying tile and hanging very complex wallpaper as well as the bead board wallpaper.
I DID IT!!! and I LOVE IT!!!
