FIRST..HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DEAR FRIEND LISA!!!
The other day in my post…..
REPLACING MIMI AND POPPI’S KITCHEN SINK,
We explored sink options and the different factors involved in purchasing a replacement kitchen sink.
WE chose this sink to replace Mimi and Poppi’s current old sink.
NOW WE NEED TO CHOOSE A FAUCET. When we did our recent kitchen makeover..I found the process of weeding through all of HUGE selection of Faucets overwhelming at time. I found a website, VINTAGE TUB, that was very helpful. I GET overwhelmed with too many choices…and Vintage Tub carries a more limited selection, but everything has been “pre-screened” to be suitable for an OLD HOME .
There were some basic decisions that need to be made when choosing a Kitchen Faucet.
FINISH, NUMBER AND TYPE OF HANDLES, SPRAYER OR NO SPRAYER, AND STYLE OF FAUCET…INCLUDING THE SHAPE OF THE SPOT.
Some Faucets are more “COUNTRY”,
some more Sleek and Modern….
and many in between….
Give yourself time to pour over the choices. I found PINTEREST to be VERY helpful when choosing my faucet, as it showed me the faucets in the kitchens and helped me define the “look” I was going for.
1. FINISH – There are a whole range of possible finish choices: Polished Chrome, Polished Nickel, Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Antique Copper, Brushed or Satin Nickel, Stainless steel and , Mahogany Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze,Pewter .
The most common choices are : Polished Nickel and Polished Chrome, satin Nickel and Oil Rubbed Bronze.
Of these choices, probably the most common choice is Polished Chrome. It is the lightest in color, and the most universal in appeal and often has the longest lasting finish. It looks great with almost any Style Decor and holds up for decades. Polished nickel resembles PC but has a deeper tone, a warmer color. Satin Nickel is a softer look, less shiny, some say easier to keep clean, as is stainless steel…a more industrial material. Oil Rubbed Bronze.
2. NUMBER OF HANDLES: YOu can get one handle, or two handles (one on either side of the spout) and there are even faucets which have the two faucets ON the spout!
3. TYPE of HANDLE – There are CROSS handles, Lever handles, some of mixed materials…porcelain…
4. SPRAYER or NO SPRAYER – Many faucets come with a Side Sprayer, made of the same materials as the faucet and in some cases, made of a lighter material, which has sometimes been painted to match the metal.
5. SHAPE OF THE SPOUT – The choices of spouts can at times be overwhleming. BUT if you do your homework FIRST, decide on your “style” and most importantly set your Budget. Having with Often times eliminate the multitude of decision paralysis inducing choices…

Mimi and Poppi chose a Chrome Faucet, with a sprayer.
They wanted LEVER handles, for the ease of turning on and off, and a LOW ARCH Spout, to make sure it would clear their Kitchen Cabinets!!!
The plumber comes First thing Monday to install the new sink and faucet…
This will be our MONDAY MAKEOVER!!!
