COLORFUL ROTUNDA PAINTINGS

THE WAITING GAME.

Tate has applied to 8 colleges. This is his personal journey and thus I won’t share much here…but I will say this….waiting for your firstborn child to hear where their life will take place, next year, away from you, away from their home…your home, your family…well, it is hard. On almost every level it challenges you to detach, compartmentalize your feelings…set aside whatever it is that this process brings us for you….because believe it or not…it is not about you and as hard as it is for you to breathe sometimes…it is about their journey which takes place tucked within yours. It is messed up!!! It is Very Very super humanly hard. All of it.

And yes, exciting. And thrilling and great …He has gotten 2 “yes'” and one deferral…here’s hoping…and praying…and cheering him to the finish line….”Yay…go …but not too fast…go!”

COLORFUL UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA ROTUNDAS

Anyway. last year, IN A DEPARTURE from my usual ANIMAL AND BARN paintings, I painted a small cudesacs’ worth of color UVA Rotundas….!

THE AQUA AND CORAL ROTUNDA IN THE KIDS BATHROOM
THE AQUA AND CORAL UVA ROTUNDA IN THE KIDS BATHROOM

They made me excessively happy…lending color to the classic, many sold at PATINA,  a brilliant store in Charlottesville that has everything I want and need and could see in my home and in all the colors!!! I love PATINA. But,as UVA is one of Tate’s picks… I pinched the AQUA AND CORAL Rotunda painting for us and it has inhabited the kids bathroom ever since. Of course, the Aqua and Coral Rotunda painting…. like all of my paintings , it is always for sale…but for now…we enjoy the colors…and the classic.

While we wait.

  1. Such an exciting, fun and nervewracking time for sure! Good luck to Tate. My sister got her undergrad and doctorate at UVA. Such a beautiful place to visit. My college girl loves to visit and eat at Michie Tavern 🙂 I’m going to visit my parents in March. Will there be a exhibit of your work anywhere in the area at that time?

    1. Hi Marcie,

such a small world isn’t..I do not have a show for March lined up BUT I will keep yu posted. February is a usually a quieter month (commission wise) and I would Like to focus on creating some new work…something I have not done in a while so fingers crossed, I may have a show someplace!!!I hope to be in Patina for April and May if you are back this way…

      1. Lesli, Thank you for getting back to me. I am in Va from time to time. I’ll check and see if you are showing before I return again. Patina sounds like a place I need to check out sometime anyway! Good luck with your creative time this winter. Marcie

  2. I LOVE your work and really LOVE these Rotunda paintings. My husband was in a PhD. program at UVA and our first son was born while we lived in Charlottesville. I would move back in a second if given the opportunity. My second daughter has UVA on the top of her list- she is a junior in high school right now- and I am hoping she gets in so I have an excuse to get up there more often (we are currently in SC). Are any of the paintings still for sale?
