22 days ago our dog named Dash went missing.
We have looked everywhere. Put up signs everywhere. Asked everyone. He just vanished.
We got Dash in December 2004. It was our first Christmas in this house and the kids had been on us for a dog for a while. I picked up the kids the day the school let out for the Christmas Holiday …and asked them if we should visit the SPCA. “YES , YES, YES!!!!” they screamed . So off we went, hoping to find the dog for us . And there in the first cage was this smiling happy jumping little brown dog that looked just like our favorite neighbors dog, “Jimmy”. Well, except Jimmy only had one eye and the kids exclaimed “Look!!! It’s a two eyed Jimmy!!!” This little brown dog was aptly named “Dash”. His bio said he liked to run, fast…. and to wander…and that we would need to keep an eye on him. Living on over 100 acres of open space it was a match made in heaven…and we took home our very first dog…Dash.
Dash made himself right at home, slept on the kids beds from Day one. But wandering he did do. Jumping he did do…chasing cars..he loved to do…but over the years he settled into a routine. Which included visiting neighbors and waiting for the kids to get home from school at the end of the driveway…every single day…even in the summer….
We live in the country…and Dash does wander and visit neighbors. We tried collars and leashes and invisible fences but he will not be contained. Our neighbors know him and love him, some even have bowls for him.
It is so unsettling and sad to not know where Dash is. It consumes my days. I ache with guilt and regret that he did not have his collar on, taken off with his last bath or that somehow we let this happen, allowing him to roam the neighborhood…my children have lost so much this year…Aunt Maura, Poppi….so very much…and now they have lost their first dog.
One thing that few people know is that Dash actually smiled…really smiled, every day when we pulled in the driveway…it was the cutest thing…upper lip curled up..
….he smiled and howled “Helloooooo”
I want to see his smile again. Please come home Dash.
Did he go missing before and return months later? Or maybe another dog? Is he microchipped? Is he wearing a collar with his information? Have you called local shelters? My heart breaks but hopefully he will come home. See if you can get the news involved? TV or paper???
I had success in reuniting a dog I found wandering using Craig’s List. I hope he returns home soon, I know I would be beside myself if either of my dogs were lost.
I hope the people who took him are looking for you as hard as you are looking for them. If so, it will all work out. I hope dash comes home soon.
I am so sorry Lesli. I know this must be so heart wrenching. Lots of prayers coming your way. Dash come home!
So sorry about your dog. I hope you find him soon. I can’t help but think that there were so many people around that area out looking for Hannah Graham. People from out of town that wouldn’t have know your dog lived in that area. I wonder if anyone picked him up during one of the searches?
My heart aches for you. I pray you find Dash soon.
I keep praying for you that someone will find him or he will wander back.
