IT AS BEEN NEARLY A YEAR NOW SINCE WE COMPLETED THE RENOVATIONS OF ALL THREE BATHROOMS INCLUDING OUR MASTER BATHROOM…
AND YET….
THIS IS BEYOND PATHETIC!!!
But it is the way things are around here and now it is TOP on my list of
“THINGS LONG PAST OVERDUE!”
I am usually never one to procrastinate…but when I do…I do it well…like a champ…my list of excuses is a mile long…and the hurdles are endless.
One of my “Hurdles” I have to admit…is the DOOR itself. When we were in the hubbub of all of the renovations, you know, a person in your house who fixes THINGS all the time for a living and my carpenter said “Oh hey, I can just make you a door…!!” I said...”Sure!”
I mean, I couldn’t exactly make it could I? But I wonder if it might now be a little too “BARNY” for my bathroom and bed room…That being said, THAT could be the exact thing that makes it perfect..the unexpectedness of it…the surprise…But I had kind of envisioned something more like this:
…….then again..I LOVE this door….!!!
NEXT HURDLE…THE DOOR LOCATION AND should it be installed on IN the bathroom on this wall….
OR IN THE BEDROOM LIKE THIS?
AND SHOULD I PAINT THE DOOR…WHICH EVER DOOR I CHOOSE AND WHEREVER I DECIDE TO INSTALL IT?
………..or leave it beautiful and natural like this?
…………….AND IF I should I paint it?……”what color?”
……………if I did paint it coral cables…that could be amazing…but it would completely dictate the decor choices in my bedroom …could work…could MAKE work….
….also….if I decide the color…should BOTH sides of the door be the same or should the inside part be the color of the wall if will cover” and should the outer side be the color of the bedroom?”or on the bedroom side like this? CAN YOU SEE WHAT A MESS I HAVE MADE OF THIS!
I WILL NOT WEIGH YOU DOWN WITH THE OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF CHOICES….you can see many on this page…and I found sources from ETSY to Home Depot…I personally have fallen in love with this hardware…
I love that it is industrial and yet also…clean and shiny for the bathroom..I found it at Real Sliding Hardware..one of my favorite aspects of this site is the photography..I could really see the nuts and bolts and how the hardware would be installed…it made such a big difference…they are a bit on the higher end price wise thought so not really a budget resource but a very good helper in deciding finishes and styles.
I ALSO LIKE Rustica Hardware…this site is great at educating the customer about the choices they have..and often need to make like…should the guide piece be installed on the wall or the floor…and this is important because say if I do this on the bathroom side, the floors are tile and we cannot drill into them as easily as the wall….and this was one of my favorites:
……………..SO WHERE AND I WITH THE DOOR????…
STILL DECIDING…STILL MULLING OVER THE OPTIONS BUT DETERMINED TO HAVE THIS DOOR…WHATEVER DOOR I DECIDE UPON UP BUT THE END OF MARCH…HEAVEN HELP ME!!!!
AND I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP…CAN YOU GUYS GIVE ME YOUR FEEDBACK to the following questions:
1. WHICH DOOR – new barn door they made me or an old door hung up
2. PAINT – YES OR NO
3. IF YES, BOTH SIDES AND WHAT COLORS?
4. HARDWARE – ANY SUGGESTIONS OR EXPERIENCE?
VOTES THUS FAR
DOOR : NEW IIII OLD 0
PAINT: YES IIII NO
I REMOVED THE QUESTION RE SHOULD I PUT IT I THE BEDROOM VS BATHROOM BECAUSE AS IT TURNS OUT …IT MUST GO IN THE BATHROOM AS THER IS NOT APPROPRIATE WALL SPACE IN THE BEDROOM!
THIS WOULD BE SO HELPFUL…AND THE I CAN COMPILE ALL OF OUR IDEAS AND FINISH THIS JOB!!
1. WHICH DOOR – new barn door they made me or an old door hung up
>Where do you have the empty space the door will need when open?
2. PAINT – YES OR NO
>Yes
3. IF YES, BOTH SIDES AND WHAT COLORS?
Bathroom side could be the coral side as it would not be seen from the bedroom You would see that color looking into the bedroom if you are in the bathroom with the door open – Is there any color that is in both rooms, or any color you intend to incorporate into your bedroom that is in your bathroom? You didn’t give us the colors of your bedroom. But make sure the bedroom side of the door looks appropriate from the bedroom
4. HARDWARE – ANY SUGGESTIONS OR EXPERIENCE?
>Hardware needs to blend with whatever is in the bedroom/bathroom.
It’s going to look great – can’t wait to see what you do!
Oh wow, I see what you mean about choices…
I’d go with the barn door but then I like rustic…if it doesn’t go with the rest of your decor, will it blend ok or look too out of place?
Paint – hm, well if you left it un painted you wouldn’t have to worry about what color to paint it. 🙂 However, I’d probably stain it so the wood look was softer than just the raw wood – a weathered finish perhaps?
If you do paint, maybe a neutral color so it goes with whatever your decor is. But again, if you changed your color scheme, you’d just have to repaint it, so go with what makes you happy.
I’d probably hang it on the bedroom side but is that a wall space you need?
Good luck! It will be amazing no matter what!
Do it just like the Lettered Cottage. A darker version of Palladian Blue and use the cheapest hardware — you won’t notice the difference after awhile. Mount on bedroom side – assuming you spend more time in the bedroom vs. bathroom.
I might paint the bathroom side white and the bedroom side coral. And it’s just a door so it won’t be hard to repaint later if you get sick of it. I think I would hang the door on the bedroom side because the room is larger and if it is inside the bathroom it might swamp the space. The only thing is that it might be easier to open and close if it is hanging inside of the bathroom but I’d still want to see it in the bedroom. It will be like a giant piece of artwork in there! I’d definitely use the one that was made for you. You already have it and If you want to buy Thomas Jefferson’s barn door later, go for it, but I would use this one for now. I have no idea about the hardware.
1. I think the new door will be fine once it is painted. It looks great!
2. Definitely painted.
3. Love that coventry gray.
4. No idea but I like that rustica hardware kit.
5. Definitely hung on the bedroom side.
Door- old panel
Paint – coral on both sides or stained on both sides
Hardware – rustica
Hey Lesli, have a GREAT week!
I am going to ask you a question (I have also been contemplating this kind of door )…isn’t it noisy when it is open and shut ? Just thinking about getting up at night to use the bathroom and disturbing my husband.
