Here is a question…
….knowing what you know…about MARRIED AND FAMILY LIFE…
….What 10 things would you ask for NOW if you were getting married ….
YESTERDAY I poked around and showed you 10 items which we received as wedding gifts in 1994..and still use. It became clear when looking how much my life has changed over the years..and how differently we live…many of the day-to-day items..especially glassware, has gone and broken, pasta bowls and serving dishes…many just did not survive US. In addition, knowing what I NOW know about what we DO NOT BUY, there are different…perhaps more PERSONAL items that I would ask for, if We were to do it all over again….
Here is my list:
1. The BEST POTS AND PANS MONEY CAN BUY
2. GOOD FLATWARE (it DOES last)
3. REALLY GOOD TOOLS (saw, drills, LEVELS, screwdrivers)
4. A FANCY TOASTER. MAYBE A LIGHT BLUE ONE!
5. KITCHENAID MIXER
6. WUSTHOF CLASSIC IKON KNIVES
7. ART
8. ROBERT ABBEY LAMP –
9. A GOOD CAMERA
10. JULISKA BERRY AND THREAD DINNERWARE
…SO THERE you GO. 10 THINGS I WOULD ASK FOR NOW…
*****************************************************************************************
AND HERE ARE 5 THINGS I WOULD NOT ASK FOR:
1. GLASSWARE OF ANY KIND (Marshall’s and Target all the way)
2. FANCY Linens. (except a nice LARGE Tablecloth AND MAYBE VINTAGE ONES)
3. Gadgety Kitchen utensils, once again, they are fun easy to pick up…(TARGET GIFTCARDS are good!)
4. ANYTHING “HIS” OR “HERS”. NO NO NO!
5. Photo FRAMES. I AM just too picky.
*****************************************************************************************************************************18 years ago….After just a few months of marriage…one thing became crystal clear…WEDDINGS…have NOTHING to do with MARRIAGE...but they sure are fun!!! I had so much fun planning mine. With my Mom. every teensy detail, meticulously planned…it was so much fun!!!
….maybe it would be fun to renew our vows for our 20th anniversary….have a big bash!
I love your closing comment about the wedding having NOTHING to do with marriage! So true! Too many couples put all their effort into planning the wedding, and no effort whatsoever into preparing for the marriage! Hubby and I have been madly in love since our first date May 22, 1981, and that love has deepened in the 28 years we’ve been married {our wedding took place December 8, 1984}.
I also have to comment on the barn picture…we own a remnant of a former tobacco farm in Southern Maryland and we are blessed with 2 huge tobacco barns {which we restored} plus 5 other outbuildings. We are toying with the idea of a 30th anniversary bash in one of our barns for 2014. Also, our oldest son is planning on getting married here on our property and holding the reception in one of the barns. Such fun!
