DIY FOLK ART PAINTING
My only criteria in creating this DIY project was that I told myself I had to use ONLY things which I already had in the house…I find when I give myself this parameter is makes me think a tad more creatively…”make it work” moments happen with the added benefit of saving time and money which as we all know…during the last few weeks of school...where running around like the proverbial chicken minus head is baseline…. is a BIG DEAL…
SO I went on the hunt for inspiration…
Revisiting all my JUNK and STUFF and CRAFT crap, and being reminded of our lack of storage space in this old house with few closets…. helped me decide that I did not want to make something that I would need to store 360 days out of the year…I would make either something EDIBLE or DISPOSABLE …..or ART. I thought it might be nice if whatever I MADE was something that would look okay on my walls even after INDEPENDANCE DAY…SO…..
DIY ART WON!!!!

TUTORIAL
1. Many things will work for the base of this project: a scrap of plywood, a canvas, even a piece of foam core board like the ones the kids use for their school projects. I found an old framed poster.
2. I taped off the frame and painted the poster with Benjamin Moore Gray Owl.
I then measured and taped off to paint red stripes. Painting the white stripes Benjamin Moore Chantilly lace…my current go-to white.
then I added RED, Benjamin Moore “Moroccan Red”
3. I THEN cut a star template out of a heavy weight paper. .
I outlined the star on the center of the canvas with paint.
4. I found a GREAT SITE with FREE printable graphics – mrprintables.com
……and found …. a fantastic and colorful printable map of the USA!
FREE. FREE. FREE.
4a. I made a number of copies of the map
and cut the pieces to fit inside the outlined star.
5. I then used a 3/4 Elmers glue and 1/4 water mixture, painted the pieces with the glue and glued them into the outlined star template.
I let the whole thing dry overnight and VOILA!!!!!
ART!
COST – ZERO point ZERO ZERO DOLLARS! Yeah baby!
I hope you enjoyed this July 4 DIY Project tutorial and that you have fun making your own spontaneous ART...it is easy and fun and a win – win!
