IS YELLOW THE NEW NEUTRAL?

Let me start by saying that DO NOT KNOW the answer to this question.

BUT – This is what I DO KNOW:

1. You guys LOVE yellow
2. Yellow works with almost any other color.
3. It is easier to find the WRONG YELLOW – than the RIGHT YELLOW.
4. Yellow is never going away.
5. YELLOW makes us happy

Here is my theory. Color and what is “IN” and “On trend” and “Hot” etc etc seems to be always in flux…or what is being the HOT color, isn’t even really a color, but WHITE, which while I LOVE a beautiful white room…especially as a perfect backdrop to other colors…is a bit devoid of color.

Since green is a by-product of yellow+blue, there is an ease about this combination. It feels very natural and symbiotic.

IT IS EASIER TO FIND THE WRONG YELLOW THAN THE RIGHT YELLOW.

It is important when choosing a yellow paint color, to test it on your walls. Yellow is highly susceptible to the changes that occur with light. There are warmer yellows which lean toward gold and yellows with bright lemon undertones. One HUGE discovery I made the hard way was that many of the pale yellows are actually NOT CALLED YELLOW!!!

IN 2010, The Dining room walls at Thomas Jeffersons Virginai Estate, MONTICELLO, were taken back to their original color (that is over 200 years ago by the way – and the color, formulated by Ralph Lauren paints is named CHROME YELLOW.

For as long as there is a sun in the sky…we will be drawn to the happy, comforting and joyful properties of yellow..in our decor and in our clothing and the accessories of life. We will surround ourselves with it , knowing that it makes us smile .
