HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND
If I really am 100% honest…I think the WHOLE reason I started this blog was because I missed my Mom.
I began blogging in the Spring of 2011. I had no idea what I was doing….I just knew I needed to talk to somebody who liked decorating, and color, and the whole mixed bag of life… as much as me. In the early days of blogging….I SPENT WAY TOO MUCH TO TIME trying to figure out how to get people to READ / LIKE me. Everyone knows…. “you cannot please all the people all the time” and so THAT goal of mine was a waste of time and energy. YES I did want to REACH people…connect to people..build my BLOG…share my ART….but striving to become a POPULAR blogger was not the way to go. I decided to just be MYSELF…the whole “ADD ….doing way too many things at one time, freaks out at the perfect pink chair or something funny the kids said…obsessed with my dog” SELF and you can like me or not! I decided to JUST TALK to YOU…like I would my MOM..share my days…WITH YOU.
I could talk to my Mom for hours about the silly nonsense of my life. The exciting stuff, the boring stuff…all of it. She loved hearing about everything ME…the kids, the house, the pets, the life…my decorating…things I had made, things I had fixed…anything. I did not know the true importance of this until her unconditional love was gone from my life…
My Mom was great. My Mom was also human and imperfect which is one of those things I did not fully appreciate and forgive..until she was no longer here for me to say “NOW I get it!” And somehow writing this blog, talking about the ins and outs of my life connects me to the part of myself that is her…all my creative whimsical traits…I get from her…it connects me to her.
So when I find myself wondering “Why am I still blogging?” I guess the only viable REAL, TRUE answer is…… “Because I still miss my MOM.And I like talking to you!!!!”
Decorating Phoebe’s room WITH Phoebe was such a bonding experience…we are already pretty close, but can we not all get a little closer…we can always be more patient and Flexible? Decorating Phoebe’s room WITH her was often an exercise in letting go …and letting her be who she is NOW… now 5 or 10 years ago…back when I still hung the moon and could make magic happen by guessing when the light would turn green!
I encourage you, challenge you to decorate with your Teens.
You can spend thousands or you can spend $25…. it is not WHAT you do and not really even how it looks to anyone else but your child….but that YOU share doing it! You do not have to be good at decorating or DIY…you do not have to know where it will end…It will take on a life of it’s own and the journey will be the part that matters MOST! You just have to respect each other and WANT it to be better…whatever BETTER is…Because only YOU know what BETTER is to you…
You have nothing to lose and so very much to gain…including a space that your child can be who they are becoming…still under your roof…for the blink of an eye…
PS – THIS FALL I already plan to enter the ONE ROOM CHALLENGE to makeover my youngest son’s room…after his big brother goes to college…his first ever room of his own!
I for one am glad that you are still blogging and I enjoy hearing your ramblings about design and decorating and life in general. You are a talented lady with a warm heart and we enjoy being a part of your life.
Thank you Holly xoxoxoxo
