FOR THE NEXT 6 WEEKS, I WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE
ONE ROOM CHALLENGE LINKING EVENT…
SHARING MY PROGRESS EACH WEEK
AS I MAKE OVER
THE BOYS ROOM

OUR FIRSTBORN SON became a College Freshman this Fall…

(or a “First Year” which is how they are referred to at UVA)

OUR SONS, TATE AND COOPER, WHO are 4 years apart, have shared a bedroom for the 11 years we have lived in this house . COOPER WAS pumped…. DARE I SAY THRILLED….to be getting his own bedroom for the first time in his life…

Cooper has come to me with Architectural RENDERINGS (on the back of homework) and Drafts and Drawings of his NEW IMPROVED room ….he is a boy after my heart! I love how active a participant he wants to be…this IS HIS room after all!

COOPER REQUESTED A MORE “MODERN” LOOK WITH LIGHT GRAY WALLS, BLACK AND BLUE ACCENTS.

Decorating his room takes a departure from my usual palate of pastels and soft Beach colors…and into the world of …NEUTRALS – clean lines and natural woods and metals…
We BINGE WATCHED “WHITE COLLAR” on Netflix and WERE inspired by the lead character Neal’s bedroom/apartment …..truth be told…”Neal” himself is a bit inspirational .

We love the mix of natural wood and grays and black…Here are our colors:
WALLS: BENJAMIN MOORE HORIZON

ACCENTS – GRAPHITE

SIMPLE NEUTRALS – GRAYS, BLACK AND NATURAL WOOD GIVE A MORE GROWN UP FEEL TO THE ROOM….
TRIM – CHANTILLY LACE

WE WILL KEEP – THE BED, THE DESK AND THE DRESSER(S), LAMPS
WE WILL GET – SIDE TABLES, A CHAIR, A NEW RUG, STORAGE BENCH
I AM EXCITED TO SHARE THIS TRANSFORMATION WITH YOU.EACH WEEK I WILL POST UPDATES, DISCUSS SETBACKS AND CHALLENGES AND TAKE LOTS OF “PROGRESS” SHOTS!
I HAVE FOUND THAT IMMERSING MYSELF IN THIS PROJECT HAS HELPED ME TO EMBRACE THIS BIG CHANGE HEAD ON…I LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE IDEAS WITH MY 15 YEAR OLD BABY BOY…AND I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE HOW IT TURNS OUT!
CHECK OUT THE 20 – ONE ROOM CHALLENGE GUEST PARTICIPANTS AND TRACK THEIR PROGRESS TOO! THE challenges run the gamut, from color changes and swap outs to contractors and walls removed and gut renovations…you are likely to find many scenarios that are in your orbit right now and LOADS of INSPIRATION!
Love that your son is so into the whole process! Your palate is my favourite and your inspo is stunning! Excited to watch!
Thanks Christine…they grow up so fast, opportunities like this (esp with Boys) are few and far between…so I am so excited that he wants to play along!
I love that he was drawing his plans on the back of homework! Sounds exactly like something I would have done 🙂 Can’t wait to watch your progress – really great inspiration photos.
Thank you Casey….stay tuned for more fun with Lesli and Cooper!
This plan is awesome–love the palette! Of course I’m giving your son a virtual high-five; it’s totally cool that he takes in interest in his room design. And of course I’m giving you a virtual high-five too because you’re making it happen! What a great project to take on together. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!
I love the direction you and Cooper re heading, love the colors and the actual show and “Neal”!! I love the black window frames. I painted our interior doors black a few years back and loved the punch but I love the window frames painted black even more. The industrial touches are nice! And I think your oldest was subliminally influenced to go to UVA by the blue and orange boyhood room 🙂

Wow, I love the inspiration! I may need to start watching ‘White Collar’! I think it’s great that your son wants to be a part of the design and has his own ideas.
You have a designer or architect in the making! So fun! Love the inspiration and can’t wait to see this come together.
I love your design plan, and that your son is participating so fully! And you’re right; both Neal & his apt are inspirational
Looking forward to following your progress! Best of luck!
Thank you Holly!!!! Time to paint!
