OUR HOUSE IS A TYPICAL “FOUR OVER FOUR” FARMHOUSE.
FOUR ROOMS – OVER FOUR ROOMS, EACH THE IDENTICAL SIZE.
One of the 4 upstairs rooms was the ONLY full bathroom – which means that the only bathroom in the house measured 18′ x 18′. Before we moved in , that room was renovated to be TWO BATHROOMS and a walk-in Master closet.
We kept the clawfoot tub, original to the house, and designed the kids bathroom around it. It was FANTASTIC for bath time We added a shower fixture…and that worked great.
THE SINK CONSOLE WAS FROM POTTERY BARN. I CAN’T REMEMBER TH WALL COLOR BUT IT WAS SUCH A GREAT BLUE. IT WAS LIKE BEING IN A POOL!!!
A FEW YEARS LATER, I DECIDED TO GO MORE NEUTRAL, AND PAINTED THE KIDS BATHROOM BENJAMIN MOORE WICKHAM GRAY.

IN 2013 – WITH 3 TEENAGERS, IT WAS TIME TO UPDATE THE BATHROOM.
I DID ALMOST ALL OF THE WORK MYSLEF!!!
WE ADDED A TRADITIONAL TUB/SHOWER, PUT DOWN HEXAGON TILE AND CHANGED OUT THE ONE CONSOLE FOR TWO MATCHING CONSOLES.
THE TRUE TEST OF ANY MAKEOVER IS HOW IS HOLDS UP OVER TIME. THE KIDS BATHROOM MAKEOVER HAS BEEN A SUCCESS ON ALL FRONT AND LOOKS AS FRESH AND HAPPY TODAY AS IT DID 3 YEARS AGO WHEN I GUT RENOVATED IT.
LETS TAKE A LOOK!
(Some things do not hold up – sadly that adorable toothbrush holder fell onto the tile floor and broke – lesson learned!)
The little coral/orange soap-dish I got at one of my favorite Charlottesville stores “O’SUZANNAH!”…and it was the catalyst behind the addition of the coral . Originally the mirrors were the same color as the consoles. Too matchy-matchy for me. I LOVED how the coral pops on the Ocean Air Blue walls……VOILA!
The mirrors, originally the same finish as the VANITIES/Consoles…were painted to POP!
…”CORAL CABLES” by Benjamin Moore.
……and in fact….I added a custom made Galvanized Schoolhouse pendant…
I learned SO many new skills doing this bathroom.
One thing I tackled was that when the tile was on the wall, the plugs were then too recessed INSIDE the wall. What I had to do was remove the screws holding the plug in and putting nuts behind them to bring the plug out 1/4 inch…it then enabled me to put the switch plate on…
The white shower curtain and liner I got a TARGET.!!
The Pale Seafoam Blue shower curtain I made from a fabric from SPOONFLOWER called
“Beyond the Sea Ikat “by
threeyellowplums
by the way…side note here…
SPOONFLOWER IS AN INCREDIBLE RESOURCE for unique fabrics…

Cool evolutions! I love seeing the redone rooms back-to-back and am in awe of the way you tackled some of the “mechanical” issues such as the recessed plugs. The seahorse wallpaper is fantastic! We redid our downstairs bathroom in our 1940 home a year ago. The color is now a tad less vibrant than your first photo…it was a departure for me from our otherwise neutral and pastel walls, but it’s a happy room…like all of your rooms! Thank you for sharing!
