Drive around house hunting and you will quickly see that an eye catcher and often a BIG game changer- at least in Curb Appeal – is the FRONT DOOR. I do love a beautiful wooden front door…

….but often, over time, the front door has been painted. Our front door has been at least 5-6 different colors in 14 years – AND who knows how many colors in its lifetime!

I like using a Gloss or High Gloss on my front door. Benjamin Moore just came out with one called “GRAND ENTRANCE” in their AURA line…. In the past I have used The ADVANCE PAINT which is a oil and latex mix. If your front door is older (like ours) and you are not sure whether it was painted with an OIL (it was) or  LATEX based paint – the ADVANCE paint Is A Great option…and will prevent peeling. We primed all of our doors with an Oil based primer FIRST and then painted them. I absolutely LOVE the ADVANCE paint for all wooden trim and window frames. It lays beautifully – very smooth – like oil and cleans up – like Latex!

Because Doors are painted Usually while they are hanging vertically – make sure you use thin coats to avoid dripping.

A QUESTION THAT COMES UP – ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE USING A BRGHT FUN COLOR ON YOUR EXTERIOR DOOR IS –

“DO YOU PAINT THE INSIDE THE SAME AS THE OUTSIDE”?

I DON’T KNOW THAT THERE IS A RULE ABOUT THIS – EXCEPT TO SAY THAT THE INTERIOR OF THE DOOR IS USUALLY A BIT MORE “GENERIC” BECAUSE THERE IS MORE GOING ON COLORWISE– DECORATING-WISE INSIDE THAT OUT. Our front door is different outside than in because ALL of our doors inside downstairs are painted Benjamin Moore “GRAPHITE”
