…MAKE IT- SPOONFLOWER FABRIC! – OR YOU CAN BUY MINE!

… THIS MORNING I got a very EXCITING EMAIL FROM SPOONFLOWER… IT BEGAN……

“Great news—you’re a success”

….GOTTA LOVE THAT!!!! ……. IT Went on to tell me that someone had purchased some yardage of my fabric I designed  on Spoonflower....SEE ONCE you design and purchase at least a fat quarter of your fabric…you can sell it!!! and I even get a tidy little commission to boot…nothing to write home about….but hey, what great way to start my day and try my  hand at Fabric design without the astronomical investment that can be!!!!

LETS GO BACK AND SEE HOW I GOT STARTED!!!!!

I STARTED WITH HORSEPLAY PILLOWS

SPOONFLOWER

I decided to give it a whirl…..IT STARTED WITH A PAINTING….

"MERYL"
“MERYL”.

…….and some playing around…the Spoonflower website is incredibly easy to navigate , and in very little time I was designing this fabric….

"HORSEPLAY"

I WAS HONESTLY NOT EXPECTING MUCH…I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND A MATURE…GORGEOUS, PINK DESIGNED PRINT FOR YEARS AND EVERYTHING WAS EITHER TOO JUVENILE OR TOO TOO EXPENSIVE…BUT WHEN I OPENED THE PACKAGE WITH MY NEW FABRIC…

SPOONFLOWER FABRIC COMES WRAPPED SO NICELY

THE FABRIC was not only beautiful but the colors were spot on exactly what I had wanted… I made couple pillows and immediately decided that I should make my long desired living room drapes from this fabric and I knew I needed to make them in time for my upcoming HOUSE CRASH by John and Sherry from  Young House Love !!! Somehow I pulled it off! and I am still so happy with the results…Sherry said the pattern looks like a “Ikat meets Lattice..”..I just Love how you cannot see the horse at first and then…YOU SEE IT! But is does not scream “Horsey” or cutesy….and it is very lovely in person.

  1. The curtains turned out wonderful! I was giggling when you capped the LINEN COTTON fabric because that is my favorite too!
My goal is to buy enough yardage in it to make my dining room curtains….a spring ’14 project!
I discovered Spoonflower a few years back myself and now have almost 80 fabrics in my little shop there, with around 20 more waiting to upload. But I am obsessed with blue and white so that’s pretty much all I offer.

My latest project are tea towels…you should consider!!
I have entered the Spoonflower tea towel contest 2 years in a row now but havent won anything, but did come away with some pretty designs! My first batch of tea towels, printed on linen cotton fat quarters just came in the mail yesterday and I will blog about them this weekend!

Keep up the great work and have fun….there’s nothing like being able to decorate your home in your own patterns and colors!
