WHAT IS GALVANIZED METAL? – Galvanized metal is simply steel in some form that has received a thin coating of zinc oxide. The purpose of the zinc is to protect the steel from elements that normally would lead to oxidation, corrosion and the eventual weakening of the steel.
SO THERE YOU HAVE IT. I like it because :
a. it looks cool.
b. it is affordable and yet hip
c. it adds that element of the unexpected to your decor.
I would not recommend an entire room done in galvanized steel, it would feel too cold and the element of surprise would be minimized. However, there are now thousands of things…
…big things…

Little things…

Practical things….
USEFUL THINGS…

UNEXPECTED things….

Impractical things….
Bright things…

Flea Market Rx
And light things….

I HAD THIS SCHOOLHOUSE FIXTURE MADE AT BARN LIGHT ELECTRIC…
DINING THINGS…..

Galvanized metal is nothing new, it has been around for years…but now it is no longer relegated to the barn or the Barracks. Galvanized metal is being used in new inventive whimsical and creative ways…indoors and outdoors, upstairs , downstairs…kitchens, bathrooms…as accessories and anchors…
How do you feel about Galvanized metal…like it…don’t like it?
Have a Great and Safe Labor Day Weekend…xoxo
Easily 15 years ago now, I found a dining room table with a galvanized steel top and a turned leg base and grabbed it! It’s large and you can do anything on it without fear of hurting the top – from cleaning fish to cutting out fabric !!
I’ve had a slight infatuation with galvanized metal since childhood. We had the wonderful privilege of visiting my maternal grandparents’ farm every weekend and I also spent as much time as possible there during summer. Galvanized metal is a farm staple. Now that we have our own little farm {www.OpenGatesFarm.com}, we have a good excuse to have various galvanized metal items around the place…from the chicken’s water-feeder & mash-feeder, to the galvanized metal trash cans I store their feed in; the various sized galvanized metal washtubs used for a multitude of purposes – some practical, some decorative; to the galvanized metal double-basin outdoor “sink” we fill with ice and use to chill drinks for outdoor events. Yep. You can’t beat it.
I love the look of it and I especially love it paired with wood. It is just such a great look both texture and color-wise.
And they just seem to hold up against what I seem to deal out to furniture. I’m with you. I love it too!
I love this metal too and how cute would those nesting tables be on the patio?
